[Instructor Steve reports on taking his friends from back home in the UK through their dive course (hence the ribbing!)]
Simple Life Divers would like to congratulate Mel, Darren, Rich and Scott all from Chessington, England for all passing their PADI Open Water and Advanced courses.
The guys arrived here from Bangkok still a bit tired from a few crazy late nights partying, so we took it easy on day one. We met in the afternoon to watch the PADI Open Water videos to give the team an insight into what they’ll be doing over the next coming days. The guys retired to their room, prep’d for the action packed days ahead.
Next morning we met up and had an enormous all-you-can-eat buffet breakfast at the Koh Tao Simple Life Resort, and with our bellies full we were ready for the day. The morning started off with a classroom workshop and a bit more theory to make sure the team where ready for their first underwater experience.
Then in the afternoon we got everyone kitted up, making sure we saved the XL wetsuit for the boys (XXL for Darren). We headed out on our dive boat to the Japanese Gardens where we assembled our scuba units, completed our pre-dive safety checks, and entered the water with a giant stride. We then worked through lots of underwater skills, combining some fun and games all which really helped the boys.
Day 3 we where all happy and ready to make our first 12 meter open water dives. The boat moored at the always entertaining Twin Pinnacles off Koh Nangyuan and the lads were eager to get in and start checking out the dive site and marine life. The start of the dive was a bit tricky with Rich being really scared and needing to have his hand held by the others in the team, but once down he started to relax. Scott had to hold his hand most of the time but he really enjoyed himself 😉 Then our following dive 2 was a breeze with the gang gaining confidence underwater.
The final day of the PADI Open Water course saw the Chessington massive complete their course with two 18 meter dives, and the guys enjoyed the diving so much they wanted to continue with the two day PADI Advanced course immediately.
As part of the advanced we enjoyed some cracking diving at spectacular Chumphon Pinnacles where we saw some whale sharks for the first time this year. We also had some fun with the night dives, navigation, Photography and peak performance buoyancy dives.
The boys had a blast and are already planning a trip back to return to Koh Tao next year, taking a break from the rat-race life of England where they pick beans for a living.
Well done lads see you in the Pub later where we will watch the mighty West Ham will win promotion back to the premier.
