Adam from Canada joined us this week, keen to get underwater but with not quite enough time on the island to complete the Open Water certification. For people in his situation – with limited time, or those who just want to try a couple of dives before committing to a full PADI Open Water course, the DSD (Discover Scuba Diving) program is the perfect option and can be done in the space of half a day.
After a short briefing on the boat and practicing 3 essential scuba skills in shallow water, we descended into the clear waters of Japanese Gardens just off Koh Nangyuan. Whilst exploring the coral reef we swam alongside countless Parrotfish, Butterfly Fish, Goat Fish, Cat Fish, Snapper and Giant Clams just to name a few.
For our second dive we took the Simple Life dive boat around to the other side of the island, visiting the popular local dive-site “Twins”. This time we hit a maximum depth of 12 meters and were lucky enough to spot two highly poisonous and rare Bearded Scorpion-fish as well as the infamous Titan Triggerfish, Blue Ringed Angelfish and many more.
Here is some feedback from Adam following the Discover Scuba Diving experience:
“Today I went out with Simple Life Divers on their Discover Scuba Diving program. I was initially hesitant to go through the course due to a myriad of fears.
I can now say I am 100% satisfied that I did go through with it as my Divemaster, Chris was extremely professional and reassuring all day. The fish and coral I saw were amazing especially my new favorite fish – The Parrotfish.
Thanks to Simple Life Divers! I definitely will be taking further scuba diving courses in the future.”
