Here at Simple Life Diving Koh Tao we’ve celebrated three of our diving internships posse qualifying as PADI Divemasters – the first professional level in PADI’s diver education system.
Joe Maloney, Brad Ransom and Tom Buxton have been with us on Koh Tao for the last couple of months, enjoying Koh Tao’s busy summer season. Under the tutorage of Simple Life’s PADI Course Director Jeff, the boys have been assisting our instructors in training new divers, learning to guide certified divers on underwater tours of the Koh Tao dive sites, and discovering how a busy dive school runs.

During their Thailand diving internship the guys have been put through their paces, becoming expert level scuba divers. They covered important theory on scuba equipment, dive conditions and the environment, physics, physiology and more, and have honed their underwater skills, including both personal diving skills and rescue assists. The guys have backed that up with rigorous waterman-ship exercises (swims), creating their own map of one of the Koh Tao diving sites, and overall finding out if they’ve got what it takes to work as a PADI Divemaster in Thailand.
We’re happy to report that the guys have responded well to the challenge, each qualifying as competent dive professionals, and we hope that they continue to enjoy scuba diving in the future, either as a PADI professional or purely as a recreational activity.
So what better way to celebrate qualifying from the diving internship than with the ritual Koh Tao Divemaster snorkel test. For which the boys decided to wear special costumes.

The Simple Life Divers gang assembled at the new Simple Life Bar and Restaurant at our resort on Sairee Beach, and under the guidance of compare Luke (Sneaky) the posse played a few warm up games before the main event. Then donning mask and snorkel, Joe, Tom and Brad marked their achievement of qualifying as PADI Divemasters by consuming a cocktail through the snorkel!
