Big congratulations go out to Viktor [Sweden] and Hannah [UK] who have qualified as PADI Open Water Scuba Instructors.
For the past couple of weeks Viktor and Hannah have been working through the PADI Instructor Development Course with Jeff. They’ve been leaning how to safely and effectively teach scuba diving within PADI standards, preparing them for the Instructor examination (PADI IE) and to go out into the world and succeed as PADI Instructors.

Over the last three days, PADI’s Examiners have been on Koh Tao, running an external assessment of the IDC candidates. Alongside the rest of the Koh Tao instructor hopefuls, Viktor and Hannah have been tested on their scuba diving knowledge, ability to teach classroom presentations, shallow water confined classes and conducting dives in open water.
It’s a nervous time for the soon to be diving instructors, and despite a few early jitters Viktor and Hannah did really well, both passing the PADI IE and qualifying as dive instructors.
As if that’s not enough reason to celebrate, a group of our diving internships Thailand posse has simultaneously passed their PADI Divemaster Internship.

Completing their PADI Divemaster internship within a few days of each other couple Jess and Alex [USA], Katie [UK], Emma [UK], and friends from home Curtis and Dan [USA] have graduated as PADI Divemasters, and opted to mark their achievements with the traditional Koh Tao ‘Snorkel Test’.
We convened at the Simple Life Resort restaurant, where the dive shop and resort put on a special buffet for the guys, which was well attended! Following our feast of yummy Thai food, by the time we got round to the post-dinner action the restaurant was packed out with people joining the celebrations.
Inevitably there were lots of rounds of drinks and entertaining games. Highlights included Viktor drinking from a giant pitcher (most of which ended up on the floor), plus the gang getting sent out to hunt around Sairee Village, tracking down a list of random items (Choppers tshirts, teaching aids, and other stuff which isn’t really appropriate for this blog!). Plus in front of an animated crowd, Divemaster Dane shattered Haydon’s reputation as champion arm wrestler and we all had a lot of laughs!

Then finally down to the main event – the Divemaster snorkel test! Jess, Alex, Curtis, Dane, Emma and Katie donned mask & snorkel and consumed a bucket of specially mixed tropical concoction through the snorkel! We’re happy to announce that the guys all survived the experience, and after a few tactical chunders, most even headed down to the beach to continue celebrating!

Congratulations to all – well done on qualifying as PADI Divemasters and Instructors!
