It’s set to be an exciting week here on Koh Tao. This evening (19th March) the world famous Full Moon Party is set to take place on Koh Phangan, so we’re expecting the usual flow post-party fluorescent paint covered masses to be making their way across to Koh Tao to check out the diving.
Add to that Koh Tao’s biggest event of the year – the 2011 Save Koh Tao Festival is set to take place next weekend, and we’re in for an action packed week.
Work is already well underway setting up the festival, with giant (environmentally friendly) structures being put up around the festival site. It’s sure to be impressive once it’s finished. As per each year there will be lots of exiting events – film and photo competitions, food and drinks, live music and DJs, environmental and community focused events and lots of fun and games.
Simple Life Divers have put in our entrant for the Mr. Koh Tao competition – one of the entertaining highlights of the festival, and we’ll be looking forward to taking part in an environmental clean-up day prior to the start of the festivities.

We did in fact pickup the prize for Mr Koh Tao a couple of years back – briefly the guys have to dress up in costume and perform on stage, for which we opted for a smurf outfit. This time round costumes must be created from recycled materials, with a ‘zero waste’ theme – you’ll have to wait till next weekend to see what we come up with…..
The festival site is only a short couple of minutes walk from Simple Life Divers, so needless to say we’re expecting it to get quite busy for accommodation over the next few days. Especially since the event is coinciding with the Phangan Full Moon Party.
So our advice if you’re headed to Koh Tao in the next few days, seeking Sairee Beach accommodation, your PADI Open Water course or a few ‘fun dives’ is to get in touch asap and book your space in advance. Most likely by the end of the week everywhere in Sairee Beach is likely to be fully booked.
