‘Rescue Ready’ has been the theme for the previous four days during the Koh Tao PADI Rescue Diver course I’ve been running.
Making up the foursome, Naomi, Mark and Andre [all from the UK] are here on Koh Tao taking their 2 month Thailand diving internship through to PADI Divemaster. The guys were joined by Sophie [who has been visiting Australia] – a former student who made her open water and advanced courses with Simple Life back in March. She too is likely to take her PADI Divemaster internship after realizing how much she missed the gang here at Simple Life Divers.

(After dealing with some hangovers and a sleepless night during the theory) everyone excelled in a deliberately challenging PADI Rescue Diver Course. Since all four will be continuing through to PADI Divemaster and taking on real responsibility as part of the Simple Life Koh Tao PADI dive team we wanted to put them through their paces. Following the initial training and skill mastery sessions we simulated lots of diving problems for the group to cope with. After a couple of days, the group decided that myself (Alex) and assisting PADI Divemaster Lee really had to be kept an eye on, to the extent where they considered us not to be able to swim at all!
PADI Rescue Diver is a great dive course to teach as an instructor, and is a lot of fun to assist if you’re taking a PADI Divemaster internship. This rescue diver course was no exception, and after being pushed hard for a few days the gang came through the training with flying colors. Congratulations everyone, and we’re looking forward to more of the same during your Koh Tao PADI Divemaster internships over the coming weeks.
(P.S. Despite what she keeps saying, we all know Sophie’s name will be featured on the snorkel test blog in about a months time! Watch this space.)
