We’ve been having fun with our new future PADI Divemasters in training during the Padi Rescue Course. Alex and Jess from America along with Johan from Sweden have been taking their rescue diver training over the past few days, and will be rising up through the PADI ranks during their diving internship with Simple Life Divers..
We began with the guys practicing Emergency First Response skills (cpr and first aid training) and getting all our rescue academics out of the way in the classroom. Then with the on land bits out of the way, the guys were ready to start honing their in-water and boat rescuing skills.
For the next couple of days the team went through their paces doing all sort rescue scenarios from dealing with panicked victims on the surface, unconscious divers at the surface, and learning how to cope with various other underwater emergencies. All this rescue diver training came together on the final day when the guys were put to the test, responding to a series of simulated emergencies with the help of our convincing “drowning” PADI Divemasters.
Jess, Alex and Johan did a great job and have qualified as Koh Tao PADI Rescue Divers. Next, they’ll move on to their PADI Divemaster internship, involving them learning to guide certified divers on underwater tours of the Koh Tao dive sites, delivering briefings and coordinating logistics, plus assisting in the training of new PADI divers. Good luck each!
