PADI Divemaster Koh Tao Dive Course | Introduction

PADI Divemaster is the first professional level on the PADI ladder. Training to become a Divemaster is a great experience where you'll log many dives, meet and work together with people from all over the world, and take the first step towards making your hobby into a full or part time profession.

Prerequisites to enroll on the Koh Tao PADI Divemaster Course

To begin the PADI Divemaster internship you must be:

At least 18 years old
Certified as a PADI Rescue Diver or equivalent
Have up to date cpr/first aid training (within the last 2 years)
Have at least 20 logged dives

PADI Divemaster Koh Tao | Structure

At Simple Life Koh Tao Diving Resort, the duration of our PADI Divemaster course is flexible - up to you. For very experienced divers the course can be completed as quickly as 10 days, others prefer to take their time and spend several months building up experience as a Divemaster Trainee. Most commonly people take about 4-6 weeks to complete the Divemaster course on Koh Tao.

Divemaster course Koh Tao Training involves three elements:

Expert level scuba diving theory
Waterman-ship skills and stamina exercises
Practical assessment, learning to guide certified divers, coordinate boat logistics and assist in the training of new divers

We'll alternate between each of these parts to keep you moving through the PADI Divemaster course at a steady pace. Let's take a look at what's involved in each.

PADI Divemaster Course: Diving Theory

You'll learn expert level diving theory covering all important aspects of recreational diving including scuba diving physics, physiology, decompression theory, scuba equipment, environment and other topics essential to a dive professional. These topics will be taught with a combination of classroom presentations, independent reading and short quizzes to verify your understanding.

Koh Tao Divemaster: Waterman-ship exercises

The in-water exercises include making 4 swims [100m tired diver tow, 400m swim, 800m swim with mask, snorkel and fins and 15 minute tread water]. You need to hit certain times, but don't worry - you don't need to be an olympian! Basic fitness is sufficient!

You'll also need to complete an underwater problem solving exercise plus demonstrate instructor quality rescue skills. You'll be trained to demonstrate all the skills from the open water course to instructor standard plus you'll create a detailed map of one of the Koh Tao dive sites over a series of dives.

Divemaster Koh Tao: Practical Application

The practical component of the Koh Tao PADI Divemaster course is the best part.

Divemaster Koh Tao After the first bit of theory you can – well – go diving. Expect to log many dives during your weeks or months here on Koh Tao.

During the course you will be working with our Divemasters, taking care of certified 'fun divers' and assisting our instructors whilst they are teaching entry level PADI diving courses.

Besides all this there will be workshops in underwater navigation, night diving, deep diving and buoyancy. We will teach you the organizational side of running a dive shop – customer care, boat logistics, course scheduling etc. All things necessary to be employed as a Divemaster on Koh Tao or elsewhere.

Use of Simple Life's shop rental equipment is included in the PADI Divemaster course fee. But it is highly recommended that you buy your own, especially if you want to plan to seek paid work once you qualify as a Koh Tao PADI Divemaster.
