PADI Koh Tao Diving Course | Introduction | Open Water Koh Tao
Taking the Koh Tao PADI open water course gives you your license to dive anywhere in the world. This PADI dive certification enables you to dive to a maximum depth of 18 meters with a buddy, in conditions similar to those in which you train [warm tropical water].
The open water course involves three steps - scuba diving theory, shallow water training, and four proper dives on the coral reefs around Koh Tao. You'll get to explore the underwater world of colorful aquatic life, deep sea pinnacles and even sunken ship-wrecks having have a fantastic time along the way.
At Simple Life Diving Koh Tao our experienced western instructors teach in small groups. This ensures you get lots of attention from your instructor, feel safe and confident and enjoy longer dives during your PADI open water course. We'll make sure that you have a fun, social experience and qualify as a competent diver. We can also arrange private Koh Tao PADI diving courses on request.
We are flexible with the schedule of the PADI open water course, but they generally run over four days allowing you to relax or explore the island in addition to the PADI dive certification.

Day 1: Orientation to the PADI Open Water course
The PADI dive certification starts with an orientation - your instructor will run you through what will be involved in the Koh Tao PADI open water course, explaining the schedule.
Then we'll get stuck into some scuba diving theory. We'll watch some videos and review a few questions to make sure you understand. Content on this first day includes safe diving practices, scuba diving equipment, effects of pressure, the buddy system and more.
Day 2: Open Water Course - Shallow Water Training
The Koh Tao PADI open water course continues with a shallow, confined water skills session. Most likely, for this first underwater session we'll be out on the boat heading to one of the islands beautiful bays.
We'll start in very shallow water gradually getting deeper (no more than three meters). Your instructor will demonstrate skills which you will practice back, designed to get you comfortable using scuba gear. This will include equipment assembly and donning, getting used to breathing underwater, clearing your mask and regulator, getting used to diving with a buddy and learning to control your buoyancy.
This session normally lasts around two to three hours, normally taking place during the morning, leaving you free for an afternoon relaxing on Sairee Beach or exploring the island!
Day 3: Koh Tao Open Water Dives 1 & 2 | Max Depth 12M
This is your only full day starting in the morning with open water dives 1 + 2 out on the boat. We will visit two different open water koh tao dive sites and dive to a maximum depth of 12 meters. During the dive we will be doing similar skills as the day before but in deeper water and trying to master the art of buoyancy. As part of these dives you'll get to explore the dive sites, checking out the amazing marine life. Expect to see lots of bright corals, tropical fish, moray eels, sting rays and maybe even a hawksbill turtle.
After your lunch break we will meet you back in the classroom at around 1pm for the last two modules of Koh Tao PADI dive certification theory and the final exam! But don't worry - the PADI Open Water course is designed for ages of 10 years old and upwards, so you shouldn't find the final exam too tricky!!
This session will take around two to two and a half hours.
Day 4: PADI Open Water Course Dives 3 & 4 | Max Depth 18M
The final two dives of your Koh Tao PADI open water course will normally take place in the afternoon.
We will take you out to the famous Chumphon pinnacles for the first dive to see large schools of Barracuda, Trevally, Mackerel. Giant groupers wait for their picture to be taken, reef sharks circle and if you're very lucky you’ll get to swim with the beautiful whale shark as he feeds on the plankton that surrounds the pinnacles.
We'll get right down to 18 metres, and on these two dives you will have the chance to star in your very own movie. Simple Life Diving Koh Tao have our very own underwater videographers that will dive down to film you!
During the evening, we'll enjoy watching your Koh Tao diving movie with [accompanied by a cold beer!] and fill out your PADI dive certification paperwork, after which you'll become a fully qualified PADI open water diver!
Sairee Beach Accommodation | Open Water Koh Tao
Your Koh Tao PADI dive certification includes 4 nights accommodation*.
For our standard Open Water Koh Tao package [9,800 baht] the included accommodation is a fan room with double bed and en-suite bathroom, near the dive shop. Simple Life diving is located in central Sairee Beach, Koh Tao, Thailand, so everything you need is within easy walking distance - restaurants, bars, shops, internet cafes - everything you need is available in the surrounding area.
If you do prefer to upgrade to more luxury accommodation [i.e. air conditioned, hot shower, tv and fridge etc], we have several options available at our Sairee Beach resort. Check out the Sairee Beach Koh Tao accommodation section of our website or drop us an email to find out additional options.

For single occupancy on the open water Koh Tao package, there is a small supplemental charge.
We're able to cover three nights within the package - you just need to cover the fourth night (500-600 baht). If cash is a big factor we can organise cheaper accommodation for the full four nights, but to be honest it's worth paying those few hundred baht extra and being comfortable!]
