Frequently Asked Questions for Scuba Diving Internships:» Do I need to arrange a visa for my Thailand diving internship? If you fly into Thailand with no prior visa arrangements, you’ll be given a 30 day visa. This can be extended by leaving then re-entering Thailand, giving you an extra 14 days for each ‘visa-run’. This is a lot of aggravation and expense. Much better is to contact your nearest Thai embassy or consulate, tell them that you plan to take a 2 month scuba diving internship in Thailand and arrange a suitable visa. You may have to pay a small amount for the visa, but this will certainly be cheaper and more convenient than making visa runs in Thailand. If the consulate needs any supporting documents from Simple Life, let us know and we’ll mail them across to you.

» What are the options after I finish the diving internship?Once you qualify as a PADI Divemaster, many new and exciting opportunities open up to you. Firstly you could work as a PADI Divemaster. Koh Tao is a very busy dive destination, so jobs come up on a very regular basis. At Simple Life Divers, we try to employ all our best ex-interns, plus we have good working relationships with the other dive schools around Koh Tao so can help get your foot in the door elsewhere. Alternatively you can travel and work – the PADI Divemaster certification is internationally recognized, so wherever you head, the DM qualification makes you employable. We have many contacts throughout Thailand and beyond, and are happy to put in a good word or supply you with a reference. Or you could take the PADI Instructor Development Course, making the step up to PADI Scuba Diving Instructor. This intensive 17 day course gives you the skills and experience to work as a scuba diving instructor teaching right up to Divemaster level. This will greatly increase you earning potential and employment options. |

» How much spending money will I need on Koh Tao?As a guide, Thai food costs about 40 – 100 baht per meal. Western food is usually 100 baht upwards per meal. A 1.5L bottle of mineral water costs about 20 baht, a small beer 40 – 80 baht. If you’re sensible you can easily live on 500 baht per day average. Some people exist on a lot less. If you do go out partying and drinking on a regular basis, you’re probably going to spend a bit more!!
|
» What should I bring with me?Keep what you bring to a minimum. Remember, it’s a warm tropical climate so flip-slops, beach wear and a pair of sunglasses is fine! Also, as part of your scuba diving internship you’ll be getting a full set of scuba gear plus all the PADI course materials, so you’ll be needing to take those home [or on your onward journey], so you don’t want to end up carrying too much! » Is Koh Tao safe? Is it OK to bring valuables with me?Generally speaking, Koh Tao is a very safe and pleasant environment. In my opinion it’s significantly safer than living in a western country as everyone is very easy-going. As regards valuables, you should be fine so long as you exercise a bit of common sense. For small things [passport, travelers cheques etc], you’re welcome to store them in our safe at the dive school.
