Life on Koh Tao? In a scale from 1 to 10 I give it a 12.

DO IT!

You won't regret it, you will meet awesome people, will be in one of the most amazing places I've seen in my life and on top of it all you will be learning something.
Koh Tao being a big dive community is a great place to do it.

The diving on Koh Tao? I liked Chumphon for the sharks, even if they scared the s**t out of me (ask Hannah lol) but it was always fun to go there and look for them. Some sharks in Chumphon came to see us after we had a dance party down there, oh how fun those were.

And an amazing whale shark was seen at Green Rock, sadly I was supervising an OW course so we only watched from the surface for a little bit and then went to do our stuff, but a whaleshark is always an amazing animal to see.

Twins was awesome while I was there too. Visibility was unbelievable! You could even see Nemo from the boat. And since we did our map there, I got to know it pretty well and that's an amazing feeling, when you can navigate a site and know exactly where you are and where you're going at all times.

The Divemaster course? Assisting the instructors was amazing and loads of fun! That's when you realize how much you really know and how far you've come from when you first started diving. And you learn a lot from each of the different instructors, they each have their own way of teaching and that is always good to see.

I esp. loved assisting Woz with a group of Spanish students, good times.

Theory was more than I imagined it would be, but it was very informative and it's useful information. Plus I got to study while sitting on the beach with a nice, cold Singha beer. Beats college any day!

Underwater equipment exchange was stressful! LOL It's not as bad as you think, it's all about making sure you get the buddy breathing part... In all honesty, we had to do it twice, but it was all good. The worst part is washing the sand out of your hair afterwards!!

Navigation has never been my strongest point but i think I managed pretty well, if I do say so myself. The first dive I led was Mango Bay so if you get lost then you're doing something really wrong... right?

For the DM swims, 800 mts no problem (tip, use shop fins!!!) 400 mts a whole other story, I was glad it was over when it was, I cursed the whole last 100 mts back to the boat.

Food & nightlife? I loooooooved the food in Koh Tao! It's all so simple and good. I loved all the thai places on the road up from Brother, any of them were good and super cheap, plus the ladies were awesome. Brother's lasagna was to die for (as were their daiquiri jugs) and you can't forget Chopper's ladies night with 50% off western food, which was always good when you wanted a burger. And late at night when all kitchens are closed... a ham and cheese sandwich from 7-11.

I'm not a big party person but the times I did go out I had a great time. For me it's all about who you're with, and I met some amazing people over there that made for some awesome nights out (when there was no morning boat of course)

I didn't visit the full moon party on this occasion but I have been there before. I'm glad I did it once, won't do it again, or at least I don't plan to. It's a one of a kind experience that everyone should have at least once I think, and then make up your own mind about it. Of course if you do go, go all out with the body paint and Samsong Buckets!

Funny stories? One day me and Sam decided to play a bit while doing our safety stop at the line in Twins. I rode it and she used it as a pole for some dancing. We must have looked pretty bad because another diver came to check up on us, which made us laugh a lot.

One of the best parts of doing the DMT was the friendships we made and diving with those friends. Oh man, the shennaningans we got up to underwater!
I will never remember my snorkel test, haha. Thanks for almost killing me guys! LOL And I lost my shoes that night, that then turned out Emma had taken, and then she was shoeless!
Or when I was getting an awesome massage at Sairee Massages down on the main road close to Sun Smile resort (best massages ever!) and thinking that it was an awesome massage but the lady had really big hands, well, ofcourse she did! She was a ladyboy!
Uuhhh and the best was Sam's 100th dive which was my 50th... so we obliged to tradition during a night dive.

What next? I actually came back from Koh Tao a month earlier than planned because I got hired as a journalist in the entertainment section in one of the major newspapers in the country. I cover mostly movies and tv stuff.
I got to interview one of the guys of the Oscar winning documentary "The Cove" just a couple days ago and we bonded when he saw my dive computer (which I refuse to take off, hehe).

I also started my Assistant Instructor course over here. Because of time constraints with the job, it will take a lot longer than it would, but I'm doing it :)

I am planning a trip to Cancun soon though so hopefully I will get some diving done then. I discovered a big passion for something that used to be a hobby. I miss it everyday
