Simple Life Divers' Koh Tao Dive Crew
It's important that as part of your scuba diving internship on Koh Tao you feel comfortable with the Simple Life Dive Crew, and become part of the team. Dive training and building up experience should be fun, and our staff is here to make sure that's the case.
As soon as you arrive on the island we'll make sure you get a warm welcome and orientation to Koh Tao. We'll setup a start date for your first PADI dive course, show you to your accommodation, and arrange to meet up for a few drinks and dinner to get to know the posse.
The shop is run by two western managers - Luke and Haydon originally from the UK, who are co-owners of Simple Life Divers. Since opening the shop in 2003, Luke and Haydon have guided the school to the great position it's in today, and are still very hands on with day-to-day management.
Joining Luke and Haydon we have a team of western PADI instructors and Divemasters. Simple Life has a core group of 7-8 full time dive staff who are on Koh Tao all year round, plus we take on extra DMs and instructors to cover our busy seasons, especially December through till April and summertime.
Our Divemasters, Instructors & Interns come from all over the world so we have a truly international team. We're able to conduct entry level PADI courses in most major European languages, (however, we prefer to teach the bulk of our professional level training in English for obvious reasons). Some of the dive team have trained on Koh Tao, some exclusively with Simple Life Divers, and others have working experience from elsewhere in South-East Asia and across the globe. Combined this makes a well rounded team and a pleasant environment to train and work in.
And equally important are are our local staff. The dive boat is captained by salty sea-dog Nam Chai - with his many years of experience we're in safe hands. Plus we have a team of boat boys / longtail drivers who help taxiing divers back and forth between the beach and dive boat, pumping tanks and keeping the place running smoothly.
All together we're looking at about 15-20 people regularly around the shop which makes a nice social crowd. Add to that the many day-to-day customers coming through the dive school and you can understand that there's always a lot going on at Simple Life.
One of the best things about taking a gap year diving internship in Thailand is the vast range of people who'll you get to meet and dive with - it really is a rich and eye opening experience that you won't regret!
