Our 4 day PADI Tec 40 course includes
At Simple Tech our Koh Tao Tec 40 Course will introduce you to the world of technical diving, designed as a bridge course for the recreational diver into the technical diving realm. The course will teach you the techniques to conduct decompression dives to a maximum depth of 40 meters, decompression is limited to 10 minutes and up to 50% Nitrox may be used for conservatism.
When you first arrive on Koh Tao you will meet your instructor who will run you through an orientation to the course, you will be given your PADI Tec Deep Diver Manual along with hand outs for independent study. During the next 4 days you will train towards your PADI Tec 40 diver certification, the schedule is performance based, but let’s take a look at a typical schedule.
In the morning after checking all the paperwork is in order, you will begin reviewing academic material for the course;the differences between technical diving compared to recreational diving along with an introduction to the PADI Tec Rec Program. Equipment and its configurations is covered. Technical diving is unquestionably an equipment intensive sport, your instructor will introduce you to the standardized technical dive rig, they will also be on hand to advise you on any of your personal equipment needs, to allow you to do the type of diving you’re interested in.
In the afternoon, in the pool, you will have your first chance to try out the equipment. Time for you to practice the necessary skills required to use the technical dive equipment safely. Trim and good buoyancy control are introduced and covered throughout the course, believe me is takes a bit of getting used to.
Meeting up in the morning we will review your homework;enriched air considerations, technical dive philosophy and standard practice are all subjects covered. An Introduction to desktop decompression software along with basic dive planning will be covered.
In the afternoon you will head out onboard the Simple Life dive boat to complete 2 training dives; skills which you have first mastered in controlled conditions will be reviewed in deeper water; such as pre-dive safety checks, cylinder management, valve shutdown drills along with the ‘NOTOX’ gas switch procedure. During all training dives you will also have to show Time/Gas/Depth awareness. It’s import that you as an entry level technical diver know what’s going on throughout the dive.
After the Final Exam you will prepare to plan yourfirst decompression dive as a team under the instructor’s supervision. You will need to calculate the required volumes of gas needed to make the dive, use of decompression software will help; a decompression gas (of Nitrox up to 50%) maybe used for conservatism. Once planned you will head out on the Simple Life dive boat for your first ever decompression dive. Upon successfully completion of all course requirements you will be awarded your PADI TecRec 40 diver certification, possible cause for celebration over a sunset beer on Sairee beach.
This day is left free as a ‘Make up day’. In technical diver training, due to its complexity and the need for skill mastery, it is not uncommon that a dive may need to be repeated. If your diver training goes trouble free; then on this day you will plan and conduct another decompression dive for further experience, free of charge.
